“Better Air for Better Living.”

What is Radon?

What Is Radon?

Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that forms when uranium in soil and rock breaks down. It is invisible, odourless, and tasteless, meaning it cannot be detected without proper testing. Radon can enter homes through cracks in foundations, sump pits, floor drains, and other openings where the structure contacts the ground.

Once inside, radon can accumulate to elevated levels—particularly in basements and lower living areas.

Why Radon Should Be Tested

Long-term exposure to elevated radon levels is the second leading cause of lung cancer, after smoking, and the leading cause among non-smokers. Health agencies recommend testing because radon levels can vary significantly from home to home—even between neighbouring properties—and there are no visible warning signs.

Testing is the only way to determine a home’s radon level. The process is simple, affordable, and provides critical information to help protect the health of occupants.

The Good News

If elevated radon levels are detected with a long term test, they can be effectively reduced. Professional radon mitigation systems are proven to lower radon concentrations up to 90% and improve overall indoor air quality, helping create a healthier living environment.

Health Canada Radon Guidelines

Health Canada recommends taking action when indoor radon levels reach or exceed 200 Bq/m³ (becquerels per cubic metre).
If levels are above this guideline, radon should be reduced to as low as reasonably achievable.

  • 200–600 Bq/m³ – Mitigation recommended within 2 years

  • Above 600 Bq/m³ – Mitigation recommended within 1 year

Long-term radon testing (minimum 3 months, ideally during the heating season) provides the most accurate results for Ontario homes.

Proven Radon Mitigation for Ontario Homes

Our C-NRPP certified radon mitigation systems are designed for Canadian soil conditions and foundation types. When properly installed, modern sub-slab depressurization systems typically reduce radon levels by 80–95%, often bringing levels well below Health Canada’s guideline, and frequently below 100 Bq/m³.

Every system is custom-designed to ensure long-term performance, safety, and compliance with Canadian standards.
